18 Tracks – Alternative Folk, guitar, English and Slovak
Work began on the Ontologist after my song ‘Devat‘ went viral in the Slovak Republic. The album’s 18 tracks were recorded and mixed in California, the Slovak Republic and Lincolnshire, England. It’s genre is mainly folk, using acoustic guitar with some imaginary piano – I pushed the boundaries of my vocal capabilities. Most songs were written in 2013, but some – like White Daisy – were written over 10 years before the album was realized.
The Ontologist includes ‘The Hum’, a collaboration with Martin Olson, head writer for Disney’s Phineas and Ferb, as well as writer for the classic Nickelodeon cartoon The Ren & Stimpy Show. Martin is an amazing evil genius, whose book, Encyclopedia of Hell, I highly recommend.
An ontologist is someone who studies or is explicitly concerned with ‘ontology’. I know it sounds like a scary word, but it’s actually really important.
Whenever you point to something and declare that it ‘is’ something, you’re talking about ontology – since ontology is the study of being, or the very basic nature of reality. So any time you wonder what anything ‘is’, you’re going at it ontologically! As you can imagine, this has been an area of great debate for philosophers, politicians (*cough* Bill Clinton) and more for centuries.
